IDC Wins Green Apple Award for LCA Calculator

IDC is celebrating a GreenApple Award for Environmental Best Practice for its outstanding contribution tosustainable design.

IDC’s lifecycleassessment software, the LCA Calculator, which helps designers to designproducts sustainably by analysing materials, manufacturing, energy, transportand disposal, was recognised as a vitaltool for the future of sustainable product design.

IDC’s MD, StephenKnowles, commented, “We are delighted with this latest award, which coincideswith our 40th year of business. As aproduct design company our job is to help clients develop better products for asustainable future. For us, the LCACalculator is a cornerstone of the design process, and as it’s now availablecommercially, it is helping companies throughout the world place sustainabledesign at the heart of the development process.”

The LCA Calculator is aquick and intuitive way for designers and engineers to understand, analyse andcompare environmental impacts of products and particular design decisions.It analyses the effects that a product orservice has on the environment over the entire period of its life - from theextraction and processing of raw materials from which it is made - through tothe manufacturing, packaging and marketing processes, and the use, re-use andmaintenance of the product, and on to its eventual recycling or disposal aswaste at the end of its useful life.

Launched in 1994, the Green Apple Awards arerecognised as one of the major international environmental award schemes toreward and promote environmental best practice around the world.IDC will receive its award at thepresentation ceremony on November 12th at the Houses of Parliament.
