A technology venture that has spent £8m developing a revolutionary heart monitor is preparing for launch as the NHS shake-up reaches doctors’ surgeries. The C.Net5000, created by the software business Cardionetics, is a portable, fist-sized device that identifies abnormal heart rhythms linked to strokes and cardiac diseases. Patients simply strap on the battery-powered equipment and the results of a 24-hour observation are displayed on a built in screen.
Cardionetics’ monitor is quicker and cheaper to use than other products in the market, according to Henry Meakin, the executive chairman. Mr Meakin reckons that if the device is adopted in the UK it will reduce unnecessary hospital appointments, cut waiting times and increase urgent referrals.
"Our product takes heart analysis into a new arena because it gives an instant reading for doctors. It doesn’t just save the NHS money, it provides better patient care too," Mr Meakin said."
