Strand's lighting rack was designed to be modular and provide a practical ergonomic layout. IDC evaluated various concepts by testing a selection of
forced air-cooling systems and connector technologies.
A working test rig was
built including the “plug in” dimmer control modules. IDC then went on to design the overall
housing for dimmer modules, taking into account the essential electrical connector details.
A fully working prototype was produced using a combination of traditional and rapid prototyping technologies including SLAs and vacuum castings. The main housing was produced in sheet metal with machined, fabricated and aluminium cast details.
