Working with Lucy’s in-house designers, IDC applied its engineering expertise to develop an industrial electrical switch with challenging space and safety criteria, as well as improved reliability.
Block Model
IDC’s high voltage mechanism successfully delivered on operational and ergonomic requirements and passed certification testing for another successful Lucy product.
This project involved the development of two novel mechanisms able to deliver 80 kilojoules of energy through a machine that changes positions of heavy mechanical components under high preloads.
As the mechanisms are operated manually, safety and risk management were important aspects of the development process.

Design Detailing
Using IDC's experience and knowledge in mechanism design, engineering analysis and material selection, the team conceptualized, designed, prototyped and tested the final solution that successfully fitted all its operational and ergonomic requirements.
IDC specified materials and coating processes to respond to strength, friction and wear, accounting for the high impact loads transmitted through the mechanism and the rigorous industry test specification.

CAD Model
IDC's resulting device was a safe, ergonomic and compact solution which provided low friction and mechanical wear, in combination with high reliability.
